The PAC Blue Heat was formed in the Fall of 2008 and played in the “Under 12” ODSL Division 3 bracket. The team consists of very good soccer players but more importantly, very nice young ladies, good friends and teammates. During the course of the year, the PAC Blue Heat played in two tournaments (i.e., FPYC Labor Day Tournament, NVSC Fall Classic Tournament). In both tournaments, the Blue Heat made the championship game but lost after overtime periods on shootouts. These were both very exciting games and each player earned and received a trophy and nice medal for their accomplishments.
During our inaugural season in the Fall of 2008, the team finished with a 5-2-1 record out of nine teams. The Blue Heat scored 26 goals (2nd highest in the league) while only allowing 8 goals against all season. The combined tournament and regular season record was 11-4-1. As a result of the Blue Heat’s achievement, they were moved up to ODSL Division 2 for the Spring 2009 Season.
The Spring 2009 season was as rewarding as the first. The Blue Heat completed the season with a 6-1-2 record while allowing only 4 goals all season while providing a high scoring offense. As a result of the excellent team play and record, the team was advanced to Division 1 for the Fall 2009 season. Our sportsmanship rating was 2nd of 9 teams with the coaching staff having the only perfect sportsmanship rating in the division. However more important, the team won the ODSL Randy Rawls Sportsmanship award. The team was selected for this prestigious award by ODSL coaches within their division and referees for exhibiting the best sportsmanship.
While the teams record was extremely impressive, each player always demonstrated superb sportsmanship and played with dignity and grace. While learning new soccer skills and having a great record is impressive, it always took second place to having fun and developing new or enhancing existing friendships. The team had as much excitement off the soccer field as on the soccer field through social outings such as a pool party, field pizza party, laser tag, team ice-skating, attending a DC United games and an end of season parties. None of these activities would have been possible without the support of great parents, coaches and grandparents.
